Trauma in the Mind's Eye: Mitigating and Eliminating Intrusive Thoughts, Flashbacks and Nightmares Events

Workshop Description

This workshop is designed for experienced front-line workers who provide short-term counselling contact with vulnerable populations in community-based settings. Traumatic experiences that are frozen, stuck and unprocessed have the potential to exacerbate and generalize stress reactions. We will learn what causes certain memories to become traumatic. We will review the neurobiology of stress on memory systems and cognitive distortions that sear trauma responses in the nervous system.

Written exposure therapy for PTSD -- A short but effective treatment approach Forum topic

First-line psychotherapeutic treatments for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can be effective, but these typically require a large time commitment from clients and often involve homework outside of therapy sessions. WET can be completed in less than half the time as CPT and does not require homework to be completed between sessions.
