What is Harm Reduction Hangouts?

The HRH virtual drop-ins are a space by and for 2SQTBIPOC youth 16-21 interested in harm reduction and peer support. Facilitated by our team of peer workers we’re all about harm reduction in a community-centred, non-judgmental atmosphere. Participants will:

Starting this Wednesday, April 20th, the Harm Reduction Hangouts Drop-In for 2SQTBIPOC youth will be launched! We are open to all 2SQTBIPOC young people 16-21 interested in harm reduction and peer support spaces.

As we get ready to begin programming, the team is launching a survey and hosting consultation circles for 2SQTBIPOC youth 16-21 to share what they want and need in a virtual drop-in space.

The survey is open until February 18th and eligible young people will also have the chance to win 1 of 5 $30 gift cards by going to tinyurl.com/HRH-survey.

Has COVID-19 effected a youth’s gambling behavior? Are youth using video games differently during the pandemic? Given current restrictions how does a program effectively discuss gambling awareness with youth?

How can organizations ensure their harm reduction programs are based on the best evidence?

Since 2013, Canadian harm reduction programs have relied on the Best Practice Recommendations compiled by a national working group led by Dr. Carol Strike in collaboration with researchers, direct service providers and people who use drugs. The landscape of drug use and harm reduction has shifted dramatically since then. To incorporate new evidence and the current realities of drug use and overdose in Canada, the working group has published a new version of the Best Practices.

Supporting Clients Who Drink Beyond the Recommended Limits

How many youth were exposed to a gambling ad during pandemic lockdowns? Can Twitch be used to gamble? Are influencers being used to market gambling products? How do YouTube's new restrictions effect the presence of gambling advertisements on the platform?

The YMCA of Greater Toronto's Youth Gambling Awareness Program's (YGAP) Media Impact presentation will tackle these questions and more, in a free hour long session.

Microdosing refers to taking a small enough amount of a psychedelic drug (often LSD or psilocybin) to improve mood, induce physical and mental stimulation, and encourage creative thinking, without producing full hallucination.

This webinar, part of the YMCA Youth Substance Program, will explore the history of microdosing, impacts on the body and mind, and harm reduction strategies. Intended audiences include youth, caretakers, and service providers.

The Peel Integrated Drug Strategy in collaboration with the Peel Harm Reduction Committee is organizing the 9^th Annual Drug Awareness Week Forum on November 15th and 16th. The Drug Awareness Week forum is a space for productive dialogues where we can continue to build on our successes from previous years to further engage service providers. This year the forum will explore themes revolving around Decriminalization of substance use, Reducing Stigma associated with drug use, Indigenous-centered approaches to Harm Reduction & more.
