Following overwhelming interest in our last Ask the Expert, we are bringing back our lived experience panel for Through Our Eyes Part 2.

This will be a  live discussion with Heather D’Alessio, Harrison Cohen, Sarah Lee and Ilyas Khamis to better understand the diverse experiences of young people around cannabis and psychosis.

In April 2020, The Lancet Psychiatry, Mental Health Innovation Network, MHPSS.net and United for Global Mental Health launched a webinar series designed to provide policy makers and the wider health community with the latest evidence on the impact of COVID-19 on mental health and how to address it.

This is the first time the IEPA conference will be organised with colleagues in South America, and holding the conference virtually will be a great opportunity for IEPA  to explore ‘New Frontiers in Early Intervention’ as well as using digital and social media during the pandemic to reach a wide audience across the world.

Hope+Me - Mood Disorders Association of Ontario is offering a psycho-education and peer support program called Early Intervention Psychosis Family Forum. This is a group for family members and supporters with a loved one experiencing psychosis. Participants will receive psycho-educational tools, resources to cope with your loved one's psychosis and will also connect with other caregivers for meaningful discussion, and mutual support.

Family education and support is a significant factor in an individual's recovery from a first episode of psychosis. With COVID-19 restrictions in place, many have experienced isolation which has increased stressors among families who are supporting loved ones.

See how CMHA Thunder Bay's Early Psychosis Intervention Program is connecting with families during these restrictions to help reduce the feelings of isolation, provide resources for coping with increased stress, and providing further information related to the pandemic and illness.

CMHA Elgin and Out There Creative Therapy are hosting a Zoom-based one-evening event for youth. The event is focused on having open conversations about the lived-experience of mental health challenges, such as psychosis and depression. It will include resources for hope, sharing the value of creativity, and discussions about meaningful action that is focused on personal joys and values.

Hope+Me - Mood Disorders Association of Ontario is offering a new program called Early Intervention Psychosis Family Forum. This workshop, presented by Schizophrenia Society of Ontario, will help you build better resiliency to support your loved ones to improve quality of life, increase day-to-day activities including self-care, and reduce relapses. You can expect to leave feeling empowered, more optimistic about your relationship with your loved one, and better equipped to communicate and support.

This workshop will be facilitated by Lisa Murata, RN, BScN, MEd, Academy of Cognitive Therapy Diplomate, and Sophie Hwang, M.S.W., R.S.W.

The Art of Recovery - Through Another Lens was a 10-week project at CMHA Toronto, where youth from the MOD Early Psychosis Intervention and Transitional Youth Program were invited to participate in a photojournalism group following the photovoice method. This approach was chosen as a way to engage youth to use photography as a visual representation to express their experiences, perspectives and thoughts around a certain topic or social issue.

With 1 out of 2 Canadian seniors experiencing emotional distress in the past year and 1.4 million elderly Canadians reporting loneliness, a risk factor for suicide and other health problems, it is clear that Canada’s senior population is experiencing mental health challenges that urgently need to be addressed. In spite of the critical demand for treatment and services, seniors are often under-treated for their mental health challenges for many reasons; among them: misdiagnoses, stigma, physical and financial challenges, and lacking service availability.
