Research has yielded mixed findings about the relationship between hormonal contraceptive use and depression. The largest study to date on this topic — which included over one million women living in Denmark — concluded that women who are using the pill or other hormonal contraceptives are at an increased risk for depression.

Help us create and design the new CAMH recovery college!

We are looking for people with lived experience of mental health and/or substance use challenges from these groups:
• youth (aged 16 to 29)
• women
• newcomers
• people who have experienced or are currently experiencing addiction
• people who have experienced or are currently experiencing racism.

Join Women’s Xchange for the annual spring event. This year’s topic highlights digital technologies and their impact on women’s health. There will be a dynamic discussion with panelists Dr. Lorraine Lipscombe, Dr. Sheila O’Keefe-McCarthy, Dr. Shivani Goyal and Jessica Ching. Globe and Mail Health Reporter Carly Weeks will be moderating the conversation.  Graduate student presentations will follow the panel discussion and the event will conclude with an optional reception from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Getting Grounded is a 6-week DBT informed group providing women with a variety of tools to improve their wellness by focusing on personal self-care. This group is ideal for women interested in building community relationships and enhancing skills. Ubah Nur and Awa Ibrahim will be facilitating discussions topics on sleep, nutrition, exercise, mindfulness, emotion regulation, and self-compassion.

Behind The Arts aims to foster conversations about self-care, community connections, culture, and wellness through arts. This group is ideal for community members interested in build relationships, learning about healthy living, and use of the arts as a means of taking care of their overall wellness.

Staring April 2019, Unison Health and Community Services will be introducing a new Trauma Group for Women called Seeds of Compassion: Growing Emotional Wellness.

 This is an ideal group for anyone who identifies as a woman who has experienced trauma and is seeking support around how those experiences continue to affect them. Each week the group will engage in discussion, mindfulness, yoga, and arts based activities to explore ways of better understanding themselves and working on healing from their experience.
