Mentally Disabled Do Not Have Fair Access to Justice

At the time of the imminent opening of HSJCC’s Community Justice Conference 2021, I appreciate CMHA branches and John Howard Society branches as two of the main organizations that assist people with mental health issues in the criminal justices system. Yet, many mentally disabled with barriers to access justice are not assisted because the system they access is not the Criminal one.

During the pandemic, the Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT) at CMHA-Kenora was not able to safely see all clients in the office. Some clients may also have had challenges in self-isolating and/or sharing information required for COVID-19 screening. 

See how CMHA-Kenora's ACTT Team adapted their service to create a way to see clients safely while still maintaining both privacy and security during psychiatric consults.

Participants in this webinar will discuss changes in system navigation, such as shifting to virtual care, and how that might affect patients, families and caregivers. We will explore how many changes are being co-developed with patient partners and communicated with their support. We will also talk about support needed to access care, from a patient perspective, and potential solutions and contingencies to address challenges faced.
