A youth patient will share their lived experience, we will hear from Hope + Me, and current research will be presented.

Widespread anti-Black racism pervades the criminal justice system, where Black youth are disproportionately represented. Regardless of their age, Black youth are often perceived in the system as agitators to be feared rather than as children in need of protection and support.

So often, we hear folks say, “Ugh, we hate evaluation!”, and we understand why! Evaluation can feel confusing, like extra work, disconnected from supporting youth and driven by misplaced accountability. But it doesn’t have to be this way!

Most of us agree that our relationship with our phones is complicated - throw in the demands of a developing brain and this complexity reaches new heights! In this webinar, Dr. Natasha Parent will explore how basic psychological needs relate to adolescents' smartphone and social media use, and how engaging with these technologies can have both positive and negative effects for teens. We will unpack how these positive effects can support teens' developmental needs, and how things like FOMO can fuel behaviours that may be harmful to teens' wellbeing.

There is an urgent need to design programs and supports that center and nurture Black youth through a culturally-responsive, Africentric lens. Join Amma Gyamfowa for an exploration of the holistic impact of Africentric social work and community programming on Black youth and families. Walk away with a deeper knowledge and understanding of the impact and manifestations of anti-Black racism and racial trauma on Black communities, and the key concepts in Africentric social work and counselling.

Dr. Marshall Korenblum is an expert speaker and psychiatrist at Garry Hurvitz Centre for Community Mental Health at SickKids.

The timely recognition and treatment of early-onset bipolar disorder is critical given the potential preventive effects of early intervention, which can reduce adverse outcomes, including chronic symptoms, substance use disorders, and suicidality. Guidelines for the treatment of early-onset bipolar disorder recognize both pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy as important components of optimal treatment.
