brainXchange event: How can we best help older adults with depression via remote treatment? Events

Depression is the most common mental illness in older adults. Social isolation and infection prevention measures to contain the COVID pandemic have disproportionately impacted older adults, putting them at even higher risk of depression.

Telemedicine increases access to care in the setting of a pandemic and may improve clinical outcomes for society’s most vulnerable members.

Supervised consumption services - location identification Forum topic

Good morning,

I am looking for best practices and/or processes cities and/or communities have used to identify locations for supervised consumptions services (SCS)? We have identified a general location through our needs assessment and feasibility study, but are looking at lessons learned or other processes others have used to support the identification of specific locations in their communities.

Thank you,

Stephanie Bale

Survey: Quality standards for mental health, opioid prescribing, and opioid use disorder Forum topic

Do you know about the Health Quality Ontario (HQO) quality standards related to opioid prescribing, opioid use disorder, and mental health? HQO wants to hear from you!

Quality standards outline for clinicians and patients what quality care looks like. They focus on conditions or topics where there are large variations across Ontario in how care is delivered. In some cases, there are large gaps between the care patients should receive and the care patients are actually getting—quality standards can help bridge these gaps.

Training Family Physicians in Counselling and Psychotherapy Skills Forum topic

As a family physician for over three decades, there are many times when our family practice patients require psychological support and are reluctant to see someone new.  Often, these patients would ask, can't I see you and talk about these issues?  As my family doctor, you know me, my family and I already trust you.  So it makes sense for family doctors to learn to do more counselling in our practice over issues that we see daily such as managing stress, depression, anxiety, insomnia, grief, anger, relationship and parenting issues.  The Department of Family and Communit
