We will look at characteristic symptoms/criteria as defined by the DSM-5-TR as well as those modalities and interventions that are commonly used. A certificate of attendance will be given. Please join us on Thursday, April 18th 2024 from 1pm - 2pm for the Understanding Depression in Later Life Workshop. This free workshop series is for older adults 65 years and older and their caregivers where we’ll discuss:

- What is depression?
- What does depression look like?
- How can you stay well and get the support you need?.

After the meeting you will receive a summary of the presentation in multiple languages, including community-based resources.

Stress Management and Burnout Prevention is a 3-Hour workshop for healthcare providers, presented by Dr. David Murphy.

How do the stories we have, shape our lives? How can we re-author them to improve well-being? Depression is well known for diminishing hope and obscuring preferred identity stories for persons of all ages. Narrative therapy is a collaborative and non-pathologizing approach to counselling and community work which centers people as the experts of their own lives. A narrative approach views the problem of depression as separate from the person and assumes people have many skills, abilities, values, commitments, beliefs and competencies.

Service Canada returns to provide an encore presentation on the Canada Pension Plan (CPP). This overview will include an introduction of the retirement pension, disability benefits, survivor’s pension, and death benefits. We will also be providing an online demonstration of applications and tools.

In Support of Black Mental Health, ECC is offering free men's mental health support group for BIPOC men to discuss on mental health struggles and to connect with others experiencing similar difficulties and to share effective tools for understanding and navigating through the challenges. You will find that you are not alone, and that there are others who understand what you are going through.

There is a high prevalence of people of all ages experiencing depression and seeking out professional help. This workshop will highlight and explore the effectiveness of Narrative Therapy approaches to aid those with depressive thoughts, emotions and behaviours in elevating hopefulness.

Depression and other mental health issues have a substantial effect on the workforce in Canada. Approximately 500,000 Canadians will not be at work in any week due to a mental health disorder, and more than twice that number will work at a reduced level of productivity. Yet there is no widely accepted clinical tool or measure for determining if a person’s depression is caused or triggered by factors at their job.
